Should You Be Snuggling With Your Cellphone?
By RANDALL STROSS

WARNING: Holding a cellphone against your ear may be hazardous to your health. So may stuffing it in a pocket against your body.
I’m paraphrasing here. But the legal departments of cellphone manufacturers slip a warning about holding the phone against your head or body into the fine print of the little slip that you toss aside when unpacking your phone. Apple, for example, doesn’t want iPhones to come closer than 5/8 of an inch; Research In Motion, BlackBerry’s manufacturer, is still more cautious: keep a distance of about an inch. The warnings may be missed by an awful lot of customers. The United States has 292 million wireless numbers in use, approaching one for every adult and child, according to C.T.I.A.-The Wireless Association, the cellphone industry’s primary trade group. It says that as of June, about a quarter of domestic households were wireless-only.
If health issues arise from ordinary use of this hardware, it would affect not just many customers but also a huge industry. Our voice calls — we chat on our cellphones 2.26 trillion minutes annually, according to the C.T.I.A. — generate $109 billion for the wireless carriers.
The cellphone instructions-cum-warnings were brought to my attention by Devra Davis, an epidemiologist who has worked for the University of Pittsburgh and has published a book about cellphone radiation, “Disconnect.” I had assumed that radiation specialists had long ago established that worries about low-energy radiation were unfounded. Her book, however, surveys the scientific investigations and concludes that the question is not yet settled. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted in Uncategorized on 12/20/2009 02:22 pm by AMMAWith all the snow and talk of snow, we’ve been asked about our snow policy.
Here it is: We’ll be here. If you can make it, great! If not, no worries. Just give us a call as soon as you know you won’t be able to make it and we’ll be happy to reschedule.
Weather conditions can vary widely throughout the region and we understand that some folks might be snowed in while others have no difficulty getting out and about. . . .
We definitely don’t want you to feel like you’re risking life and limb to make your appointment!
Be well, stay warm and enjoy the snow!
“Snow Day” by Billy Collins
Today we woke up to a revolution of snow,
its white flag waving over everything,
the landscape vanished,
not a single mouse to punctuate the blankness,
and beyond these windows

Family Time - Reduce Stress and Enjoy Your Time With Family
Posted in Uncategorized on 04/01/2009 05:48 am by AMMAFamily time can be defined in many ways, depending on your lifestyle, and who or what you consider as family. Most people define family as spouse and/or children. But for some it could be the cherished pets. And still for others their closest friends.
We are generally social ‘animals’ with a ‘herd-tribe’ mentality. We need the ‘herd’ to survive. This togetherness is very important and gives us a sense of completeness and security. When we are unable to prioritize our time, energy, or thoughts towards these important entity’s, we get stressed, worried and anxious.
Of course the first priority on your list is for yourself, yes, you. Your health and wellbeing must be maintained, before you can give to others. Remember you ‘ must have your cup of energy filled before you can give to others’. When you are wasted, tired, depressed and otherwise stressed out, you are a hindrance rather then a help to your family.
Are You Stressed-Out? De-Clutter Your Brain
Posted in Uncategorized on 02/25/2009 09:41 am by AMMAI have a program on my computer called System Mechanic, which I run about once a month.
Every time I run it, it tells me what’s wrong with my computer and also how much clutter is on my system.
Well, when I ran it this month it said,
“YOU HAVE 288 MEGABYTES OF CLUTTER”.
